SOI 2019- Scripts of India

India can boast about its 22 official languages. But in this rapidly modernizing world, some vernacular languages and its related cultural aspects, are disappearing.

We are Thankful to Guest Speaker, Professor Emeritus, Dr Rajeshwari Pandharipande for sharing her insights on ‘Significance of Vernacular Language in foreign lands’, to SPICMACAY UIUC and Ishwarya Vardhani for adding colors to this Talks-and-Discussions event with their delightful group performances at AACC.

Thanks to Asian American Cultural Center, Chunning Murray foundation, International and Area Studies Library, UIUC for hosting our Rotating ‘Scripts of India’ Exhibit and to Mrs. Mohan Tracy for helping curate displays at the Library.

A 3 week celebration started with workshop at Urbana free Library. 4 scripts were chosen to represent 4 directions of India along with the National language. Teacher volunteers- Maninder Kaur, Ashwini Rajmane, Samantha Kanan, Anupama Mazumdar leaded the language tables- Gurmukhi, Marathi, Tamil, Begali and Hindi respectively. It was a good experience to explore the beauty of varied Calligraphic writings.

The Main event was held at historic Chunning Murray Foundation Chapel. Guest speaker, Mrs. Agarwal shared her experiences and insights on Sahaja Yoga (in Hindi).

Parent volunteers- Dipty Singhania, Aditi Mishra, Preeti, Angika Sharma, Rakshita Chowdhary.

WE are grateful to all the Guest and Volunteers for making this event an enriching success.
