Visual Inspirations

In our Art journey, one encounters many Inspirations. They come from various sources, like Nature, Arts, Artists, or even casual everyday life. Whatever the source they touch our sense of Beauty and enrich our life.

While working on Creative Inquiry project my attention shifts to the many Visual Impressions encountered during and beyond project work. They become my Inspiration for exploring the nuances of Art.

This exhibition is a Tribute to those Visual inspirations and the Artists

who inspired.

Our CU community is filled with Amazing Artists. I was fortunate to

cross paths with some and be touched by their creative works. It is a

pleasure and an honor to present some of these Artists. Their

participation has enhanced this Art Show presenting the viewer with a

variety of Art. Each Artist works in different medium. Each Artist, a

master in their own field of Art.

Artists that inspired:

Mohan Tracy

The many conversations with Mohan, around Nature, Poetry, and Life

have been enticing. Whether it's the beauty of blooms or the shades

of snow, a book on cultures or songs from times old, it is a wonder to

see how her relation to each of these aspects translates into the vivid

forms of fabric sewn into flowers, embroidered birds, appliqué

textures or quilted geometric shapes.

Mohan's fresh new ideas and attention to finished details on her

Fabric Art pieces inspires us to take the high road, in Art and in life as

a whole.

Charles Wisseman

What initially piqued my curiosity in Charles' creative process is a

display of his experiments with handmade papers. This curiosity

turned into amusement and awe for his innovative designs, skillfully

executed into interactive Art. With a background in Medical

(pathology) field Charles seems to bring the experimental outlook

towards his art practice. His creative works inspire us to broaden our

artistic vision and get courageous with our own creative process.

Hua Nian

Hua's joyful nature reflects in her beautiful paintings and also in the artworks of

her students. Her mastery of watercolors is seen in the lovely bugs she paints,

with love for them. While talking of one such piece of a Dung beetle, she writes,

"The dung beetles are indeed the guide to my self-awareness in the universe -

eyes on the constellation and push forward whatever you get in life including

shit. :) "

Her warm hearted energy inspires us to create joy while being creative and

being consistent with whatever we do.

Judie Spencer

judie's intricate bead creations reflect her passion and dedication

towards her Art practice. While discussing her neck pieces once, she

spoke of the energy they contain and asked me to feel it. Just being

able to hold the piece made with Japanese glass beads, makes one

feel elevated. Over the years, it is fascinating to see her explorations

into contemporary designs and interesting collaborative works. Judie

encouraged the Artist in me and she continues to inspire us with her

enthusiasm for her own creative journey.

Julia Pollack

Introduction with Julia was made as a creative facilitator for the 'Art of

Science' program. Her huge displays of science based Visual images were quite

interesting. What truly touched me though, were her small paintings at an Art

show. These oil pastel and pen works were subtle yet captivating. It is

impressive to see Julia's vast array of Science related Art work and at the

same time maintain the quiet sensitivity towards her personal Art expression.

Suci (pseudonym)

Suci's enthusiasm is contagious, in an uplifting manner. Her passion for

traveling and for Photography proves to be a great combo for the captivating

photographs she brings to us from corners of the wild World. Her photographic

eye glorifies the beauty in Nature and presents those natural elements in a

novel way. Suči mentors her students and also inspires me to grow in many

meaningful ways in life.

Brian Sullan

The visual sensitivity in Brian's digital creations challenges my inhibitions

towards technology in Art. His “mashup” art combines photographic images in

interesting ways, such as his “Driven” series that features vintage junkyard

cars. The old cars with their rust and peeling paint, along with the textured

concrete surfaces of the large drainage pipes used for his “Portals” series,

showcases his fine tuned visual aesthetic. Conceptually, the end results

transform our interpretation of common everyday things that now exude an

organic feel despite their man-made origin. Brian thus inspires us by revealing

the beauty hidden in decay and the aging process.

Marti Sullan

Marti's Artworks feel playful, yet calm. Her simple process of watercolor resist

technique that some of us have used in school days, is taken to a new level in

her creating artworks that portray beauty of leaves and honor their forms.

Marti's creatively made bookmarks are novel and especially inspiring to me as

they are shared for a school cause.

Paper works

The Paperwork display is a tribute to Paper as a material on the occasion of

World Environmental day (5 June). Paper serves our daily needs, at the same

time holds the potential for higher expressions with it. Though man has taken

a huge leap with AI, the classic charm of paper never fades.

Our inspirations do not limit to the displays in this show, they include the

warm community around us, the rich Art world that is always alive, the

seasonal beauty of this land that presents the many Visual Inspirations and

feeds our Artistic spirits. This exhibition is a celebration of it all.

We are grateful to the Analog Wine Library for offering us this venue. Many

Thanks to Brian Sullan for his tech support, to Vyom Mehta for display help, to

all participating Artist for making this show a celebration of Visual Arts.
